Get $3500 for your old gas guzzler!

As of Dec. 2007, if you are under a certain income (as most students are) and your old, clunky, inefficient vehicle is registered in a participating county, you can get up to $3500 to buy a newer, more efficient one:

LBJ (city, state and) Nation...literally

The next few years should surely be good years to get jobs through LBJ School connections. With the imminent retirement of City Manager Toby Futrell, LBJ alumna Laura Huffman is a viable contender as her replacement. Toby teaches at LBJ in the spring semesters, and Laura frequently speaks to LBJ groups.

Biking Helmets - 10$ - UHS

Not many people wear helmets when they bike. Maybe it's because of style, maybe because you forget, or maybe you don't have the cash. If it is the 3rd reason, you should go to University Health Services on Dean Keaton. They sell quality helmets for $10. Don't lose everything you've worked so hard for because of a bicycle accident.

LBJ Livewire Issues

Hi everyone,

There have been some issues with the lbjlivewire webpage not refreshing correctly. In other words, when you log-in, or submit other information, it may seem as though nothing has happened. The problem is that the page is not refreshing correctly. (I am trying to correct the problem, although it may not be fixed for a while.)  Therefore, if you think you are experiencing this issue, just click the refresh button in your browser. This should ameliorate the situation.

Giuliani Set for GPAC Presidency

Breaking news: Giuliani announces his candidacy for the 2007 GPAC presidential race Saturday afternoon at a campaign rally.

Pundits questioned his interest in the student government elections for the LBJ School of Public Affairs - a school he had never attended and in which he would be ineligible for any electoral position. Insiders were quick to note that his excellent fundraising potential and skilled legal team clearly trumped any unfounded concerns regarding minutiae of the GPAC Constitution.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS Feb 27 & 28

LBJ Friends,

As I asked you this morning over email, we can (and we should) vote in the UT Student Government elections online today and tomorrow.

I talked to you about why it is important to vote and why we, as the graduate school related to policy and government, should set the example. Now I'm going to talk to you here about some specific actions I want to pursue as the LBJ Representative.

Join the Orientation Committee

Eric and I are assembling an Orientation Committee. We need your ideas, your leadership, your ability to navigate a tube down the Guadalupe. We will respect your time with our keep-meetings-short policy, and we won't pressure you to commit more time and energy than you can. Let us know if you are even the slightest bit interested so that we can talk you into it. It's gonna be fun.

New media and student recruitment at LBJ

What if we went around LBJ with a video camera and asked a few students, faculty, and staff a question or two about their experience at LBJ - what they liked the most, what they dislike, favorite class, important policies issues, etc. Say a few minutes per interview maximum. Edit the video, add a generic little background song or something, and either post it as one file or maybe a few separate files as a series. It seems like we already have the IT capability to do this, but if not we could always use YouTube.

Livewire Upgraded

Livewire has been upgraded to version 5.0 of Drupal, the software that we use to power the website. Please let the Technology Committee know if you experience any problems with the new version. We will continue to tweak the setup and make improvements over the coming weeks. Feel free to leave a comment if you would like to see something specifically added or changed.
